BANDON - Join the Bandon High School Speech and Debate Team for its second Sweet Speeches of the school year at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Sprague Community Theater, 1202 11th St. SW.
Everyone is invited to come out and show their support for the BHS Speech and Debate Team and witness the team’s exciting dynamics. Team members will start Sweet Speeches with a humorous skit on the theme “Winter Olympics.”
Sweet Speeches is the team's main opportunity to share with the community the season's award-winning speeches while raising funds for meals and motels for upcoming speech tournaments.
The team will perform a variety of pieces ranging from interpretations of published works, to originally written after-dinner speeches. Each performance will be humorously introduced by Speech Team members.
This year’s team consists of 16 diverse and dedicated students, 11 returning and five new speakers. This is the fifth year that two freshmen have been accepted onto the team. The captain this year is David Fodrea, who has dedicated much time to debating. Seniors include Fodrea, Jacob Tidwell, Keeton Jennings and first-wear senior Kyle Brown. The juniors are Nick Turner, Isabel Winston, Les Anderson, Marino Santoro, Jackson Kennon and Ruby Toole-Jackson. Sophomores who started as freshmen are Amelia Russell and Becky Yu. In addition, sophomores Kyla Harris and Izzy Bean have joined the team. This year’s two freshmen competitors are Bella Erenfeld and Elli Schulz.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and includes cookies and punch during intermission. Tickets are available at the door or from team members.
"Come show your support for the team on Jan. 18 at the Sprague Theater and enjoy the production along with some treats," said coach Tyler Curtis.
