COOS BAY - The Dolphin Players will present one weekend of staged readings of a new play “A Gathering of Finches,” by Judith Elliot McDonald, adapted from the book “A Gathering of Finches” by Jane Kirkpatrick.

These performances will be held on Jan. 19, 20 and 21 at the Dolphin Playhouse, 580 Newmark, Coos Bay. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7 pm. Sunday will be at 2 pm. There will be a talk-back with the author following each performance. Admission is $8.

These staged readings are the final step in the development of a new play. “A Gathering of Finches” tells the story of the tangled life of Cassie Hendrick Stearns Simpson, who was the wife of Louis Simpson, South Coast entrepreneur and founder of the City of North Bend. Cassie Simpson was the inspiration for the creation of Shore Acres, an oceanfront estate near Coos Bay which is now an Oregon State Park. Her relationship with Louis was tumultuous and scandalous for the period.

This adaptation is being developed through an agreement with Multnomah, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House LLC, Copyright 1997 by Jane Kirkpatrick. All rights reserved.
