COQUILLE — Each year over 200 young artists from Coos County participate in the Coquille Valley Art Center's Young Artists’ Show. This year's show is scheduled for Feb. 6-22 where aspiring artists aged 3 to 18 will exhibit their original fine art, sculpture or photography.
There will be five age categories with ribbons and prizes awarded at each level. Paintings, marker, colored pencils, etc., qualify as fine arts but must be suitable for hanging with backing, mats or frames. Frames are required for heavy art pieces. Photography also must have backing, mats or frames. Sculptures may be ceramic, wood, or paper but must be sturdy and easily moved.
There is a limit of two entries per artist. Each piece must be clearly labeled with artist’s name and contact information. Entries will be accepted noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, through Thursday, Feb. 1, at the art center. Thursday’s deadline will be extended to 6:30 p.m.
The art opening reception and awards will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at The CVAC is located a mile and a half southeast of Coquille, at 10144 Highway 42. Regular hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
