Speed gun could trigger tragedy

I just got back from town. It was a harrowing and terrifying experience. I was southbound on the McCullough Bridge, and as I reached the end of the bridge I saw something that spooked me badly. Right there, partially hidden by the concrete abutment, was a man aiming what looked like an AK-47 or an RPG, straight at me. His feet were braced for the recoil and the stance was textbook Army rifleman. He wore a turban. My heart leaped up into my throat. I did not have time to think or react, just enough time to start to panic.

The objective is to keep people from driving too fast in a construction zone, not scare them out of their wits.

Next time the cops should stay in the cop car, leave the radar on fulltime to set off the detectors people use to help slow down traffic even more and that way the cops stay warm, the people aren't scared and the speeding stays under control.

People will see a cop car at the end of the bridge as a deterrent. An unknown person looking like they are ready to do something military-like isn't the way to go.

You are not the only one. My husband and I both have driven across McCullough bridge and thought someone was pointing a gun at us. Why doesn't the officer stay in his car instead of scaring people like that?
