Hawthorne wins Crossings Cup

Julie Hawthorne, who lives near Port Orford, captured the second-annual Crossings Cup on Friday, beating Charlie Sriutis in th championship match 5 & 4.

“She played amazing,” said Bandon Crossings pro Chris Young. “There wasn’t really anything Charlie could do. From 100 yards in, she played lights out.”

Hawthorne won four of the first eight holes and maintained the lead on the back nine.

The championship match capped the three-week Crossings Cup playoffs that included the top eight players from the season-long Casual Fridays schedule.

In the semifinals, Hawthorne beat top seed Chris Holm, while Sriutis beat Lisa Hawthorne, Julie’s sister-in-law.

Julie Hawthorne started as the No. 4 seed and beat Don Conn in the first round, while Sriutis, the No. 7 seed, beat the No. 2 seed John O’Hanesian.

The other qualifiers for the match-play event were Al Greenfield and Larry Grove.

The third season of Casual Fridays will begin next spring at Bandon Crossings, which is located 5 miles south of Bandon.
