Congress slowly consolidates power
The public forum section of The World addresses a variety of views and opinions regarding the various problems that are plaguing our nations today. Some of these letters indicate a firm grasp of the political structure that has led us to our current situation.

Sticks, stones hurt more than words
Ms. Merskin’s views (The World, Oct. 26) as a scholar have the feeling of censorship, and being supported by a newspaper editor is surprising. 

Perspectives vary on offensive words
I’m not sure where to go with this, being a half-breed raised as a white girl here locally, and not let into my actual ancestry until I was in my 50s, which was a few years back. I still have no cause to be offended by the word “squaw” to describe the adult Native American female. In fact, it only seems to serve to raise me to the cause of being an adult American native female.

Random lottery is the way to give
Having received only favorable comments from citizens from all over the state, we need an effort to make a change in the Oregon Lottery.
