Lifting quilts
Join the Coos Sand ‘N Sea Quilters meeting at 7 tonight at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
Featured speaker Kara Alexander will present “Lift the Quilts Out of Your Stash.” She will offers a discussion for quilt makers of all skill levels, a press release said.

Fall festival
St. Monica Catholic Church, 357 S. Sixth St., Coos Bay, will present a fall festival of crafts, music and food Friday and Saturday.
On Friday and Saturday, a soup-and-sandwich lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m. The $6 meal includes a choice from two soups and two sandwiches, as well as a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.
A meatloaf dinner will be offered on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
On Saturday, a pot roast dinner will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner pricing is $20 for an entire immediate family; $6.50 for adults; $3 for children 8 to12 years old; and $2 for children 3 to 7 years of age. Macaroni and cheese also will be available both days.
The event will feature music provided by Sandy McPherson on the harp starting at 5 p.m. on Friday. Tom Collins will perform piano selections beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Chess tourney
Coquille Chess Club will hold their first tournament of the season at the Coquille High School on Saturday, Nov. 7. The tournament is open for adult players. Registra-tion begins at 9:30 a.m.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three scoring players of each grade level and to the adult best scorers. The tournament will be separated into grades kindergarten through fifth grade, and sixth through 12th grade. Adults will be matched with the sixth grade and older players depending on turn out. Entry fee is $5 per player. This tournament is OSCF rated and a qualifier for state.
Good dog test
The Furry Friends Therapy Dogs, Inc. will offer the Canine Good Citizen test from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Coos Bay City Hall, 500 Central Ave. It will be either in the parking lot under City Hall or in front of the building, depending on the weather. The test is open to the public including drop-ins.
An entry fee of $10 is required. Please bring a leash and a buckle or slip collar. No prong collars, head halters, harnesses or food treats are allowed during the test. Also bring a positive attitude and lots of praise for your canine companion.
