Many years ago this great nation was blessed to have Ben Franklin. Our county has been blessed with three modern day Ben Franklins — Jim Bice, Clark Walworth and Fred Kirby.

Ben Frankin was a very wise man who had a tremendous amount of common sense and used it wisely as history has shown. There is such turmoil going on in our communities, i.e. recalls, firing, infighting, negative letters to editors and so on. But yet “our Ben Franklins” have stood fast and have been writing, reporting and giving us advice, which I am sorry to say, is falling on mostly deaf ears.

How many hours do you think Jim spends researching facts before printing his column every week? Why don’t the naysayers pay attention to the good hard fast advice that Clark gives on pulling together instead of apart to make our communities better? Fred having served his community with honor in the past has seen firsthand how communities, when working together, can accomplish any task. If we had any sense, we would put Fred back in office should he choose to run again. Good men like him do not come along too often.

So please stop the bickering and useless negative actions, and do something positive. Get involved in helping your community. Join a committee that wants to help build a better community by doing something. Donate to a good cause. We need each other.

Thank you Jim, Clark and Fred. May God bless you and your families and your staff, our communities, the United States of America, our troops and their families.

Ben Franklin is arguably one of the greatest minds of history. Any comparison to these other people is just insane. It is a more believable postulation to say these men are the antithesis of Ben Franklin.

Regarding Mr. Bice:

If you listen to his show, you will hear most every week his complaining or bickering about one thing or another after doing what he calls "exhaustive research and investigation". The research is nothing more than going to websites that reflect his viewpoint and parroting those ideas.

Case in point: On yesterday/Monday's show he proclaimed that proposed health care legislation would "dismantle the entire U.S. health care system." An overstatement to say the least. It dismantles nothing. And if he claims it does he should clarify and prove his point. But why clarify when you can just spew nonsense and try to scare people?

It's the exact same health care providers. It's the same insurance companies with some additional rules to follow to protect consumers. And, with any luck, an option for people who have none now.

Ben Franklin? I think not. In fact, I would suggest Mr. Bice follow Mr. Gitlin's advice and "please stop the bickering and useless negative actions, and do something positive."
