Dune danger sends several to area hospitals

Emergency responders saw plenty of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area over the holiday as all-terrain vehicle riders suffered a plethora of injuries and took trips to area hospitals.
Medics took Melonie D. Widener, 32, of Sherwood, to Bay Area Hospital on Thursday with head and neck injuries after she wrecked near V8 Hill.
Jeremy Q. James, 28, of Coos Bay, had possible broken ribs Friday after his motorcycle crashed in the Bull Run staging parking lot.
Lynette Lown, 45, of Lebanon, had shoulder and neck pain after crashing near Razor Back hill Friday.
Two motorcycles collided at Horsfall Ridge on Saturday. Ian Beyers, 17, of Canby, was taken to Bay Area Hospital with arm injuries. He was later sent to a Eugene hospital, a Coos County Sheriff’s Office press release said.
Two ATVs collided near Sand 1 in Douglas County. One driver was OK, police said, but Brandon Towell of Sherwood went to Lower Umpqua Hospital.
Gary Mull, 40, of Amity, hurt one wrist and ankles after launching off a 12-foot razor back near Winchester Bay on Friday.
An ATV rolled over Shannon Richmond, 40, of Roseburg, near Sand 2 Friday. She had rib and hip injuries.
Christina Boevers of Bonney Lake, Wash., was riding near the Sand 2 parking area when she hurt her wrist.
Police said Amanda Essencher, 21, of Dallas, Ore., injured her left shoulder Saturday after she was ejected from an ATV near the Hauser sand road.
On Sunday, emergency responders went to the Box Car area, to help Luke Eala, 42, of North Bend who hurt his elbow.
Medics aided Vern Deatherage, 60, of Oakdale, Calif., on Sunday near Winchester Bay after he crashed and was complaining of difficulty breathing, rib and back pain.
