Dale George Harding

A private gathering will be held at the family home of Dale George Harding, 79, of Coos Bay. Cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory in Coos Bay under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel.
Dale was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Marshfield, the son of Neil George and Elizabeth Caroline (Mintonye) Harding. He died June 29, 2009, in Springfield of causes related to cardiac arrest.
Dale was a 1947 graduate of Marshfield High School and repaired instruments at the Music Box store. He married Edith Noah in 1948. They were later divorced. In 1953, Dale and family moved to Elkhart, Ind., where he worked in a mobile home factory and in a flute factory. In the late 1950s, the family relocated to Olympia, Wash., where Dale again repaired musical instruments before joining the Olympia Fire Department in 1956. Dale and Claudia White were married in 1967. In 1981, Dale retired from the Olympia Fire Department. He and Claudia moved to Veneta, where he owned Harding's Custom Woods until 1985 when he retired a second time due to a heart attack. In 1993, Dale and Claudia moved to Coos Bay, where they enjoyed Blossom Gulch neighbors, elk and the family home designed and built by his mother, with the help of family and friends.
Dale's hobbies included barbershop quartet, mountaineering, photography, cycling, wood working, fly fishing and landscaping. In later years, Dale enjoyed using his computer to communicate with family and friends.
Dale is survived by his wife, Claudia Harding of Coos Bay; four children, Roger Harding and wife, Debbie of Olympia, Nora Sutherlin and husband, Bob of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ann Harding and fiancŽ, Brian Wedgeworth of Mountain Center, Calif., and Harold Leo and wife, Debbie of Alberta, Canada; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Dan Harding.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201 or Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
