Community-based care saves us money

Sunday, June 14, 2009 |
Admittedly, Oregon legislators are facing difficult choices as they develop the state’s budget.
However, the phrases “penny wise and pound foolish” or “pay me now or pay me later” come to mind as various deliberations occur.
Oregon’s home and community-based care programs, the anchor to the state’s long-term care systems, help the frail and vulnerable remain in their own homes. Spending dollars on home and community-based care helps keep individuals out of more costly residential care.
Maintaining services in home and community-based care is a win-win situation.
The budgets are actively under consideration now. Let your legislators know home and community-based services are a wise investment for the state. State dollars go further. More people can be helped and it is where individuals prefer to live.
