Elkton announces top students

Elkton High School students graduate June 5, 2009, in Carl Grimsrud Memorial Gymnasium.
Valedictorian
Matthew “Maté” Eberhardt is the son of Gus and Barbara Eberhardt of Elkton. He has a GPA of 4.04 and has been involved in football, basketball and track. He also has participated in FFA for four years and is currently serving on the Youth Advisory Team for the Department of Education. He served as freshman class treasurer and is currently the student body treasurer. Maté participated in the Upward Bound Program for six weeks prior to his junior year at the University of Alaska earning credits in geology, language arts geology, Latin I and math III. Maté plans on attending the University of Portland majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in math.
Salutatorian
Mackenzie “Mac” Smith is the son of Jody and Donna Smith of Elkton. He has a GPA of 3.69. He is involved in football, basketball and track. He has been a class officer for four years and is currently serving as the student body vice president. He has also volunteered as a tutor after school for elementary students. Mac has been selected All League in football for three years and has been selected to play in the East West Shrine game, eight-man All Star Football game and the All Star Basketball game this summer. Mac plans on attending O.I.T. in Klamath Falls and earn his bachelor’s degree in civil or renewable energy engineering.
