EUGENE (AP) — A University of Oregon laptop computer containing Social Security numbers for disabled teens and young adults has been stolen, but officials say there was no indication the thief had access to the files.
Officials said the theft from a university employee appears to be random and the computer was password protected.
The laptop contains data on participants in a career planning and employment services program for young people ages 17 to 21 with learning disabilities that include attention deficit disorder and emotional problems.
The university does evaluations to help the state Department of Human Services determine how effective the program is.
The university has notified participants of the theft.
