Coos Bay and North Bend residents will hear a tsunami warning on Sunday. The cities of Coos Bay and North Bend and the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board will test a tsunami warning system, Water Board General Manager Rob Schab said in a press release.

Sirens at North Bend High School, the Coos Bay Fire Department’s Empire station and Water Board Service Center in Coos Bay will be activated at 1 p.m., issuing a steady blast for one minute. This test will be followed by a dam-failure signal — a one-minute on/off siren blast.

Alarms should be audible within Coos Bay and North Bend, and the upcoming test will give residents a chance to hear how they sound, Schab said.

I think someone at the World should follow up on this and let the public know why they did not do the test like the newspaper had said! I am still wondering what that siren sounds like.

Siren works, we can hear it. Question is: Now what? We need to know what to do, where to go and most of all, a website, phone number, or media outlet that broadcasts for further instructions. Recently the siren was set off eroneously. A Public relay of info system is greatly needed here.

Siren works, we can hear it. Question is: Now what? We need to know exactly what to do, where to go and most of all, a website, phone number, or media outlet that broadcasts whether the siren is real and further instructions. Recently the siren was set off eroneously, there were no answers. A Public relay of info system is greatly needed here.

Didnt hear anything wrote on Jan 4, 2009 1:05 PM:

So where was the signal??? I live withing the city limits I should have heard something

The Real Test wrote on Jan 3, 2009 3:34 PM:

The real test is, who can hear it? The people that a tsunami would truly affect do not even hear the signal. Now the dam signal is a different story.
