Jurors to get Stevens case today

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jury deliberations are set to begin in the corruption trial for veteran lawmaker Sen. Ted Stevens.

The 84-year-old Stevens has said that he wants a verdict by Election Day, and it now seems more likely that he will get it. The veteran Republican is charged with lying on Senate financial disclosure forms about $250,000 in home renovations and other gifts he received from his friend, millionaire oil contractor Bill Allen. The jury will likely get the case later today.

If Stevens has his way, he’ll soon return home to Alaska vindicated, with the weight of a two-year FBI investigation finally lifted.
