Airport meeting followed by ceremony today

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 |
The Coos County Airport District board called a special meeting today so the airport’s advertising firm, Kemper Lesnick, can update commissioners on the effectiveness of a marketing campaign promoting SkyWest-United Express flights.
The meeting will take place at 4:45 p.m. in the board room, Southwest Oregon Regional Airport passenger terminal building, 1100 Airport Lane, North Bend.
It will be followed by an inaugural flight ceremony, with a red carpet welcome for the 5:20 p.m. flight arrival from Portland. The event is to celebrate the launching of the United Express flights between North Bend and Portland this past Sunday. The SkyWest Portland air carrier service replaced Horizon Air’s service that had been provided at the airport for 26 years.
Speakers will include Sen. Joanne Verger, D-Coos Bay, Rep. Arnie Roblan, D-Coos Bay, and Chris Warner from the governor’s office, Oregon Director of Aviation Dan Clem, Colin McCormack from the Portland mayor’s office, representatives of SkyWest, the South Coast Development Council and airport district.
Airport commissioners will meet again at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the district board room. The meeting will include a presentation on a proposal to implement parking fees at the new airport terminal.
