South Ossetia: Six killed in car bombing

MOSCOW (AP) — South Ossetia’s government said a car bomb exploded at the Russian military’s headquarters in the separatist region, killing six people and wounding four.

Today’s blast comes amid persistent tension following Russia’s war with Georgia over South Ossetia.

The separatist region’s press department said a car exploded near a building where leaders of the Russian peacekeeping force were located.

The department said the car had been confiscated in an ethnic Georgian village after weapons were found in it.

Interfax news agency reports the dead are members of the force.

Russian forces are to withdraw from territory surrounding South Ossetia later this month but remain inside the region itself.
