Popeye & Olive Oyl

Lynn Mantooth and Sheryl Beck teamed to win the Popeye race in the 17th-annual Popeye and Olive Oyl tournament at Cedar Bend Golf Club over the holiday weekend.

Mantooth and Beck outlasted 14 other teams to win the title, beating Vlasta Hilmar and Judy Hulbert on the final hole.

The couples tournament included a random draw for partners.

After two days of qualifying, the top 15 teams were put into the Popeye race, with the next 15 in the Wimpy race.

Kelly Polk and Kay Bullian won the Wimpy race, with Tom Roseberry and Patty Morris taking second.

State Elks

Jeff Johnson beat Ronnie Davis to win the championship flight in the annual Oregon State Elks match-play tournament at Coquille Valley Elks Lodge over the holiday weekend.

The other flight winners were Craig Davis, Kevin Odle, Craig Praus, Ron Cress, Bill Looney, Ed Yelton, Jay Westrum, Gary Britt and C.J. King.

The event drew 80 men, all Elks members.

That score was two shots better than the teams of Sentia Johnson, Ashley Johnson and Margaret Hampton; and Jackie Liedholdt, Gail Burke and Gerry Leep.
