While footballs fill the air on Friday nights, the sounds of football can be heard in the homes of people who can’t make it out to the games on the South Coast, with several radio stations broadcasting games and nearly every school having all or most of its games broadcast.

The biggest change this fall to the schedule is the impact of the new Pirate Radio station, the FM counterpart to the school’s KMHSstation, which will broadcast all of Marshfield’s football games, as well as volleyball. The school likely still will use KMHSfor basketball and spring sports. With the Pirates now on 91.3 FM for football, the former radio home for the school, KSHR, will now broadcast a mix of Coquille and Myrtle Point games which frees up KBDN to broadcast all of Bandon’s games.

Here is a list of the South Coast radio stations carrying football games, starting on the lower end of the radio dial. Some stations can only be heard in relatively small areas on Friday nights, but serve their communities. Coverage for most stations starts 5 to 20 minutes before the 7 p.m. game time.

KMHS Pirate Radio (91.3 FM): Broadcasts all Marshfield games.

KGBR (92.7 FM): Broadcasts all Gold Beach games.

KURY (95.3 FM): Broadcasts all Brookings-Harbor games.

KBDN (96.5 FM): Broadcasts all Bandon games.

KSHR (97.3 FM): Broadcasts a mix of Coquille and Myrtle Point games.

KJMX (99.5): Broadcasts all Reedsport games.

KYSJ (105.9 FM): Broadcasts all North Bend games.

KCST (106.9 FM): Broadcasts all Siuslaw games.

Ducks and Beavers

College fans can hear Oregon’s two major colleges on several stations on the South Coast, as well as in other areas of the state on the extended sports networks for the universities.

University of Oregon games can be heard in the Bay Area on KHSN (1230 AM), in Florence and Reedsport on KCST (106.9 FM) and in Brookings on KURY (910 AM). The other major stations to carry the Ducks are KUGN (590 AM) in the Eugene area, KXL (750 AM) in Portland and KQEN (1240 AM) in Roseburg.

Oregon State University football games are carried in Coos County on KYSJ (105.9 FM) and in the Florence area on KCST (1250 AM). Away from the South Coast, the Beavers can be heard on their flagship station, KPAM (860 AM), nearly statewide at night. In Eugene, the network affiliate is KKNX (840 AM), while in Roseburg KRNR (1490 AM) carries the Oregon State games.
