I am writing to get the word out about our local Reedsport Headstart program. As many of you know, the Headstart program has taken some budget cuts recently. I, as a parent, was concerned that this program would not be offered this year. I am very happy to say I went to a meeting recently and the program will be offered. A few things will change, though.

First, I want to openly invite parents, grandparents and anyone who is raising a child 3 or 4 years of age to please apply for this program. The more children who apply and are in need of this is how we keep this program alive and well.

Secondly, I would like to ask for help in raising money to fund the transportation of the children who attend this program. This year, there is not enough funding for transportation and the children who attend will have to be self-transported. I plan on doing whatever I have to do to get the money there. In these next weeks, I plan to have a bake sale, do a car wash and whatever else I can do, so I am hoping that this word is spread and the wonderful people of our community will kick in as they always do to help the children of Reedsport.

I can be contacted at home at (541) 271-4182 by anyone who wishes to help.

I am doing this only as a parent of a daughter who has benefited from this wonderful program and of a son who soon will.
