Curry County honored Sophia Soberon, of Brookings, after she won Oregon’s statewide Poetry Out Loud competition against 2,000 other students. She competed in nationals, ultimately winning a medal. Other grand marshals included the undefeated Gold Beach Panthers football team; wrestlers Travis Moore and Brandon Harding of Port Orford; Sam Redding and Rebekah Wagner, who went to Future Business Leaders Association nationals; and soccer player John Swenson.
