Coos County owes tribes land, thanks

You asked what I thought!

I am sure that when the U.S. Army removed the tribes from their land, illegally, they were not thought of as “liberators.”  In fact, the Army was committing numerous crimes against the property owners by possessing their land with no cause or agreement against the land being violated. The violating party in the form of the Army was at fault. Of course, this goes back to “obeying orders.”

The people of Coos County owe much to the tribes in the area. But if not for them, we would be doing without many businesses, in many areas, that make our lives easier. There should be no question, whatsoever, about returning the land and lighthouse that sits upon the land to the rightful owners.  The land was never given over to the U.S. Army willingly. It was taken by force. The only reasonable action to take would be to return the land to the rightfully legal owners.

Coos County needs to start showing some appreciation for all of the conveniences that the tribes have made possible to the cities of Coos Bay and North Bend. In many cases, they seem to be the only group that really cares about the future of this area.

It is a crying shame that the leaders of this area continue to antagonize and make life and construction as miserable as possible for the Home Depot organization, when the tribes were willing to provide the land. Home Depot would have been the diagnosis that would have  provided better health in many ways to Coos County.

The land was taken illegally, by force! It needs to be returned to the rightful owners. This action is long overdue. There is no question of the proper ownership of the land. It belongs to the tribes. It belonged to the tribes in the yesterdays, it belongs to the tribes today and will belong to the tribes in the tomorrows.

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE "TRIBE" ALREADY DOES NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY KIND OF TAXES TO THE LOCAL,STATE, AND FEDERAL LEVELS ON THE MILL CASINO AND RV PARK. WHY THE HELL IS THAT? WE DON'T OWE THEM A THING! THEY HAVE THE RESERVATION OUT ON CAPE ARAGO, WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT! WHY IS IT THAT A WHITE MAN GETS ASKS TO LEAVE HE SHOWS UP ON THE RESERVATION? Mrs.McLeod, if the tribes have done alot for this area than let them solve the homeless problem and give Fred Myer the $2 million they are asking for. Better yet, YOU give Fred Myer the $2 million they are asking for!!!!!

What is wrong with all you people that have commented on this story.Meceod had the story right. The Tribe wanting the lighthouse property isn't even the same Tribe that owns the casino you morons. And instead of blaming the local tribes for our lousy economy and stereotyping the people who go to the casino wake up!! it is a touism thing since all our other industrys have been regulated out of existance.

Have you ever put in any comments against the tribes or the Mill casino? I bet not. You must be affraid to offend them because they might advertise with you. I notice you NEVER put any comments against BENETTIS in your comment section, WHY IS THAT? Just wondering why some businesses cannot be mentioned negatively.....

Another dumb letter. Yes the "tribes" really are doing us a favor. They are taking business away from all the RV Parks, and hotels and motels and a lot of restaurants are closing because of them. All the money from the welfare people and social security people is being spent on gambling. And they got the best piece of land in the area for a casino and RV Park. What a waste of good waterfront land. Yeh, they are really 'helping us' ha !

You first. Give your little hunk of America back to Britain, the indians, cavemen, France, Spain, or whoever it used to belong to. Once you do that, move to a different country, because you are here illegaly because your great great great great great Grandfather must have helped steal it or take it by force.

I for one am keeping my chunk, and you can pry it from my dead hands. Sorry if over the course of thousands of years "Reality" took over, with countries and lands changing hands via war, bloodshed, political ambitions, etc. Sorry if someone's ancestors hundreds or thousands of years ago were wronged, but I am not going to be the one to pay for it. Take the handouts I pay for already, and get over it. When can we finally move on?

Unless you are suggesting that every non native American find another planet to live on, giving it all back to the red man, then the only solution is to get over it and stop trying to profit from your long dead ancestors.

"The people of Coos County owe much to the tribes in the area".
Are you serous? You want me to reach into my bank account and give you something that you haven't earned? The indians have as much a right to that land as the stupid sea lions. It sounds like this radical letter writer is ready to raise an indian army and go to war again. wow...
