Donald L. Holmen and Deborah L. Stoddard were united in marriage on May 3, 2008, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in North Bend by the Rev. Karl Schray. A reception served by the Holy Redeemer Altar Society followed at the church center.
The bride is the daughter of Bill and Sylvia Stoddard of North Bend. The groom is the son of Susan Holmen of Roseburg and Dan and Trudy Holmen of North Bend. Both are graduates of North Bend High School, classes of 1982 and 1983. They met again 25 years after graduation thanks to the matchmaking of Debbie’s sister, Susan Uehara and Don’s stepmother, Trudy Holmen.
The groom’s daughters, Rebekah and Hannah, were wedding attendants. Matron of Honor, Tracy Myrvold, of North Bend, is a high school friend of the bride and Best Man, Charles Holmen, of Eugene, is the groom’s uncle. Ushers were Jason and Joseph Uehara, nephews of the bride.
The bride wore the same tiara worn by her mother 53 years ago and also by her sister at the blessing of her marriage. The Rev. Karl Schray presided at the ceremony using the Bible of the bride’s grandfather. A special sand ceremony united the couple and Rebekah and Hannah. Sand representing their lives is now blended and never to be separated. Debbie presented both girls with a special medallion and pledged her love and support to them.
Debbie works for Bay Cities Ambulance and Don works for Roseburg Forest Products.
The couple spent their honeymoon in Orlando, Fla., and will make their home in Coos Bay.
