I was born there, but I do not hold the same closed-mindedness, narrow sightedness that undermines anything good that tries to come to CB/NB. May I suggest Alaska? We have such a shortage of employees that you can get a job inside 1 week! Engineers and nurses especially. My daughter is in IA and she and I compare weather all the time. Winters are slightly cooler and our summers are wonderful with 24-hour sunshine in June and July....keep AK in mind!

We eliminated a lot of crime and druggies on our block by forming a neighborhood watch. Know your neighbors, watch for frequenting druggies and step outside when they drive by. Believe me, they do not want to be noticed. The best advice is to write down License Plate numbers on vehicles that "frequent" drug houses.

It's funny how many people are complaining that this took so long. Maybe we should investigate all those who think this took too long. How would they know it did? Sometimes when you go hunting it's not always a good idea to shoot the first thing you see. The first month after I moved here I saw more random drug use out in the open then I ever did in much, much larger cities. Perhaps if people started turning folks in we'd clean this up faster then we do when we leave it up to an agency.

Its too bad that there are not more living wage jobs in the area, maybe thats part of the reason people do the drugs? There are plenty of drugs etc here in the upper midwest but plenty more hard working people. I am very attracted to the isolation the south coast offers and that is why Im moving back plus the weather is not as severe as it is here. Had all time record snowfall this past winter and now rainfall of historical proportion. Its been crazy and exciting here! I visitied Eugene last summer and saw a girl just swirling around talking to herself for nearly an hour. We were at an outdoor cafe. She looked under age but clearly was on something. Was entertaining to say the least but also very very sad.

Advice To Dan wrote on Jul 1, 2008 1:35 AM:
I moved away then moved back...worst mistake ever. This area is a cesspool of angry people. Some, because they're sick of the meth freaks (of which there are MANY), others because they ARE the meth freaks, others because this is a repressed and depressed community, and some are angry because they're the few that work while the rest collect welfare. (BTW: don't flip out people! Nothing wrong with actually needing welfare, but the majority are just girls with too many babies and not enough daddies, and young guys that don't want to work).
So, if you want somewhere to retire, don't need politeness from other residents or courteous employees in businesses, don't need any working income, and don't mind if your home/car gets broken into...well then this is the place for you! Welcome!

Remember when the law makers tried to convince the taxpayers that making it harder to buy over the counter cold medicines would be the answer to controlling the manufacture of meth? What it did is make it harder to obtain cold and allergy medication that were more effective for cold and allergies. 80% of the meth that is circulating throughout the country comes from south of the border in super labs. Our government created the market for this to happen. It also created job security for the same government employees. It is all a conspiracy to dupe Americans out of their hard earned dollars when in fact the government doesn't really want these problems to go away. If the drug problems were solved, there wouldn't be any need for agencies like SCINT. We are the tit that never dries up for these guys. I for one, would be curious as to how much the total bill to do this five year investigation cost versus the amount of meth actually impounded. It all seems like a waste when one knows that there will be another person to take his place within weeks.

Because of the wonderful rights our constitution guarantees, it takes an incredible amount of time to build enough evidence to ensure a conviction.
If so many people posting here are concerned with how long these types of investigations are taking, why don't you do something to help....donate money and time or get involved in your community. Support your local law enforcement instead of bashing them.

You guys are idiots. Is it ironic that racists don't know grammar(lack of education)? Don't assume that just because someone has a Hispanic sounding name that they are automatically an "illegal." You are insulting the majority of Latinos who are hard working, tax paying, born and raised AMERICANS who have never committed a crime.
If it weren't for the failed "war on drugs" the people behind meth labs would be American, like it always had been until recently. You can blame your beloved republican anti-drug warriors and fellow white tweekers for drawing in criminals from south of the border since they created the market for foreign methamphetamine ingredients.

I agree 5 years is excessive. The police should be able to kick in doors on anonymous information and take people to jail when violations are found. Instant justice, that way no more whiners would complain about it taking so long to build a case, given that law enforcement has their hands tied behind their back at the moment, and criminals have more rights than anyone else.
Funny thing is, if police were bootin doors, the same whiners here talking about how 5 years is excessive, would be the same ones screaming 'what about our rights!'

The reason other agencies were there is because it was a Federal matter. So that makes it an even bigger deal. And did you read where he is being logged at in Lane County so that would be why Eugene SCINT was here. Lets see how you would handle something like that, if you jump into things you never get the result you want especially in a situation like this. It takes a long time to build a good enough case against someone to just go in and get a search warrent... So if they would have went in 4 years ago most likely he would have been out in a couple of days and that would have been it. But since they had patience and intellegence unlike a lot of people in this town this man is going to go away for a quite awhile.
