A record objection has delayed the appeal of one Coos County land-use application on Coos Bay’s North Spit, while a deadline has been set for petitioners to explain their appeal of a second one.

In December, the Coos County Board of Commissioners approved Jordan Cove Energy Project’s application to build a liquefied natural gas terminal on the North Spit. Less than a month later, it also approved a land-use application submitted by the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay to build a marine terminal nearby.

Both decisions have been appealed to the Land Use Board of Appeals, though each is at a different stage in the process.

On Feb. 27, an objection was filed by the petitioners regarding the port’s application. They said the record of the county’s decision is missing several documents and needs to be more organized. A LUBA spokeswoman said the petitioners and the county are working together to resolve the dispute. Petitioners include the Southern Oregon Pipeline Information Project, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition, Citizens against LNG, Knute Nemeth and Jody McCaffree.

An objection of Jordan Cove’s application record previously was filed and has since been resolved. The petitioners have until March 20 to submit a brief outlining their reasons for appealing the decision to LUBA. Jordan Cove will then have time to file a response before the issue is heard before the land board.
