Q: I see that the Chinese restaurant, Sun Wah, is no longer open. Do they ever plan to reopen? If not, is there a possibility of getting some recipes? My family is really disappointed that they have closed. In our opinion, they were the best.
A: Carl Chin is Sun Wah’s listed owner on the business license on file with the city of Coos Bay. The license has not been kept current during the past year, according to the Public Works Department, so it is unlikely the restaurant will be reopening.
A local phone number for Chin has been disconnected and the business number rings without an answering machine.
A county business listing also includes an address for a West Covina, Calif., financial company. A search turned up the company’s address, but no phone number for the financial company.
A further search of the Realtors Multiple Listing Service (RMLS) did not turn up a listing for the sale of the property.
We were unable to locate the restaurant’s owners to try to get those recipes.

With the Chins moving our community lost a great restaurant and an even better family. As it currently looks I am saddened to say that I believe the article to be correct and I do not see Sun Wah oppening either. My best wishes go out to Mr. and Mrs. Chin, Cindy, and of course Geordi who worked so hard at his parents fine establishment. You and your restaurant are greatly missed.
Before the Chin's opened the Sun Wah in Coos Bay they had a restaurant in Coquille where the Denny's Pizza is. They were the nicest kids, I remember Carl, Nancy, the twins, Maisy and Daisy and Ellen. I think I am forgetting somebody. I went to school with them and we all loved them. I wish them the best.
Carl Chin graduated from Marshfield and ran and took care of his folk's for many year's after they retired and were unable to keep working. He maintained and operated a fine restaurant and facility for the years of late. He and the restaurant will be missed. Thanks forsupporting the Bay Area
